Bear Iron Works — Weekly Operations Meeting Summary October 20, 2025

Duration: 29 minutes

Safety Updates

A coaching reminder was issued regarding a recent driving incident. The standard guidance remains: maintain 12 months of safe driving to clear internal records.
The team also discussed installing an after-hours security camera to monitor the shop yard.

Quality & Warranty

Grizzly Rock Screen Unloading Issues

A Grizzly unit was mishandled during unloading, improperly lifted from the top crossbar by the customer and dropped.

Preventive Measures:

  • “LIFT HERE / LIFT FROM BASE” labels will now ship with every Grizzly Rock Screen.
  • A short “How to Unload Your Grizzly” instructional video will be produced.
  • An automated email will accompany every Grizzly order explaining rigging points, proper unloading techniques, and a do/don’t list.

Custom Rake Return

A heavy-duty rake returned with bent tines and broken welds, likely caused by side-loading through rock.
The team is evaluating:
  • Whether the tool should be repaired or rebuilt
  • Potential design improvements, such as shorter, stouter tines or added gusseting

Production, Materials & Equipment

  • Inventory Cleanup: A list of slow-moving or aged items will be created for potential sale or auction.
  • Concrete Washout Tubs: One 1-CY tub remains in stock.
  • Plasma Table Computer: In transit with expected arrival around October 21.
  • Skid Steer Snow Pusher Production: Cutting edges for all models, including 6-ft units, have arrived. Snow pushers will enter production once the lead fabricator returns. Engineering notes will be captured during assembly.
  • Steel Storage Rack: Decision postponed until an onsite review in early November.

Team & Inventory Management

Purchased-Goods / Resale Items

The team is reconciling auction-sourced items versus in-stock resale items to ensure accurate valuation across Fulcrum ERP and Shopify.

Process Improvements:

  • All items with SKU prefix “99-” will now receive Fulcrum barcode labels upon receipt.
  • Goal: Full Shopify integration to allow staff to scan, check out, and manage resale inventory using mobile devices.

Security Update:

Plans for an exterior yard camera were supported, partly due to ongoing wildlife activity in the yard.

Old Business

  • Roll-off Concrete Washout Tub marketing photos have been published; monitoring lead activity.
  • Engineered trench box discussion deferred to ownership only.
  • Snow pusher design revisions pending evaluation during the current build cycle.

New Business

Wyoming Grizzly Rock Screen Bids

A state agency inquiry suggests new bid opportunities for Grizzly Rock Screens. The team will explore the new “Public Bids” government portal to identify multi-state opportunities for Bear Iron Works’ products.

South Carolina Delivery Logistics

A shipment to the Charleston region is scheduled for October 27. A delivery-day offload recording will be captured for training and marketing.

MSHA Part 48 Compliance

A mine-site visit for a Concrete Washout Tub inspection requires proper MSHA Part 48 certification. No shortcuts will be permitted; compliant training paths are under review.

Key Decisions

  • “LIFT HERE” labels will be applied to all Grizzly shipments.
  • Move forward with the Grizzly unloading video and automated customer email.
  • Steel rack purchasing remains on hold pending onsite assessment.
  • Returned rake will be handled as both a warranty evaluation and an R&D opportunity.
